Stella Kaplan is a musician, performer, film and media composer, and teacher in Los Angeles.
A 2022 graduate of Berklee College of Music, she is a multi-instrumentalist (primarily bass and mandolin) who plays in a bunch of styles (rock, Celtic, choro, pop, punk, r & b, jazz, bluegrass, classical) with a bunch of bands.
She has gigged at venues and festivals including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Third Man Records, MoPop Festival, The Viper Room, Globe Theatre, The Peppermint Club, Agganis Arena, The Middle East, Tucson Jazz Festival, Crystal Ballroom, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Doug Fir Lounge, Pickathon, and Riverhouse Mt. Bachelor Jazz Series.
She does session work, most recently playing bass for composer Nicoletta Nomicou’s score for the film Estelle.
Following an internship at Bear McCreary’s record label Sparks & Shadows, she was a co-composer on the Emmy-Winning score for Percy Jackson & The Olympians on Disney+.
She has scored several short films (including SIMONE, directed by Aisha Amin), wrote and released a Celtic album (available on primalhouse music), and has worked as a freelance transcriber, making lead sheets for shows on Netflix, studio musicians, and others in the industry.
She currently works with composer Mark Orton on various projects including as a Composer's Assistant on the films On Swift Horses and Miss You, Love You.
She is the Music Director for School of Rock Woodland Hills.
Raised in Portland, OR, she is a Queen fanatic for the ages.
